When the time comes to remove the motor from a 6.0L Powerstroke Truck, many mechanics are shocked to discover that Ford’s OEM procedure specifies lifting the cab for engine removal! That can be a real problem for mechanics that don’t have access to a two-post lift or for some modified Powerstroke chassis types like ambulances that have so much wiring, heater lines, AC lines, etc., that cab lift is not an option.
The only option left is to remove the motor from the cab. Fortunately, the 6.0L powerplant is an excellent candidate for this traditional type of removal procedure. In fact, the vast majority of accessories can stay with it when it comes time to pull the motor. The only thing you really need to remove from the motor itself is the FICM and turbocharger. This section will demonstrate how to successfully pull a 1,000 pound 6.0L Powerstroke engine out of the bay without destroying it, the truck, and yourself.
