The 7.3L Power Stroke is a very rugged and reliable engine. But, just like everything mechanical, there will come a day when she has to be torn into to fix things like compression loss, oil consumption, or a skip. This section will guide you through what we call a “refresh.” Doing this will restore the engine to near Day 1 running specifications. The parts to refresh an engine are not cheap, but going to the dealership to buy a remanufactured engine will cost you a lot more. This section will show you the process of getting down to the crankshaft and how to properly rework the main bearings and get you back to a “ready to run” motor. The main purpose of this series is to not only demonstrate how to refresh the engine, but it will also help you gauge the shape of your engine so you can see whether a refresh or total rebuild is in your future.
