eBay Special 2005 6.0L

Today I want to talk to you about this “really great deal” that my customer got on eBay. He bought this truck for $19,500. The advertisement said the truck has been re-painted, it has a skip and has an oil leak.

It is a nice looking 2005 truck with 141,000 miles. The paint looks good, but the oil leak is a pretty good oil leak. It has a lift kit and level in the front. The leather is a little beat up.  $19,500 for a 141K mile truck seems a little steep, but it is a rust free truck in good shape.  When you start it up, it is hard starting and you can hear the skip in it.

When we get it on the lift to see what is going on underneath, you see a great big oil leak coming from a hole in the side of a motor. There are engine pieces hanging out of the side of the motor!! “But it was a good deal on eBay for $19,500”.

This truck is going to need a whole new motor, core and everything because the block is shot.  I’m sure the crank is trashed. The cylinder head cores may be okay.  It is nice and rust proof down this side of the truck. It is suppose to be rust free, but rust free is sort of a relative thing.

Here is the deal:  “it has a skip, it is hard to start and it has an oil leak” … a great big oil leak; right in the side of the motor! I don’t think $19,500 was a good deal for this truck.  What do you think?

Here is the moral of the story:  Don’t just go onto eBay and buy a truck. Without inspecting the vehicle, you are never going to know what is really wrong with it. (And don’t drink alcohol and go on eBay because you are going to buy something that you don’t want.) This guy got beat up pretty bad at $19,500 for a truck with a hole in the motor.  When we explain to him how expensive it is going to be to fix this, he is going to be pretty upset. So don’t ever buy a truck sight unseen from eBay because they are usually pulling your leg.  ~Bill Hewitt
